Care and storage for Silver Jewellery:
The silver we use in our manufacturing is sterling silver 925, as indicated by the London Hallmark stamped by the Assay Office upon testing each product for purity.
All silver products can be liable to tarnish over time for many reasons. Silver tarnish consists mainly of silver sulphide and some silver oxide, which can develop when the object is in a damp or humid atmosphere, or if the jewellery comes into contact with certain chemicals and moisture. Helping to avoid tarnishing.
Humid weather will increase the chances of pieces darkening, but it can also be caused by reactions to hairsprays, deodorants, perfumes, soaps, chlorine, alcohol and cleaning products. Stress and diet also appear to have an effect due to the release of toxins through the pores, which also means that wearing silver jewellery whilst exercising can cause silver to tarnish quicker from the perspiration.
Places to Store Sterling Silver Jewelry:
A container that locks out air is preferable. The most common household items with this function are zip lock bags, or any other air tight bag with a non-abrasive surface.
All Scarlett’s pieces come in our gift boxes that are made using glue and materials that may cause tarnishing if the silver comes into prolonged contact with the fabric. We recommend storing unworn jewellery inside an airtight bag in your jewellery box minimize the chances of this occurring.
